From Matera, the group travels by private coach to the Regional Historical, Natural and Archaeological Park of the Rock Churches of Matera, known as the Regional Park of the Murgia, one of the places where traces of human settlements dating back to prehistoric times have been found. Time has shaped the landscape, sculpting the soft rock into ravines, valleys and caves once inhabited during the Palaeolithic period, such as the famous Bat Cave. The remains of villages dating back to the Neolithic period, such as those of Murgecchia, Murgia Timone and Trasanello, and at least 150 early medieval rock churches can be viewed inside the park. Visitors can admire a wild and varied natural environment, walking along the park's paths crossed by the Gravina river. The park is home to 923 plant species, foxes, hares, porcupines, bears, reptiles and birds. The nature guide will lead the group along a cultural experience without equal.
